Movement

Distances

Rifles and light machineguns 150m(6")
Heavy machineguns,mortars & wagons 125m(5")
Manhandled guns 50m(2")
Tanks,Spanish A\trucks & limbers 250m(10")
Cavalry and fast tanks 375m(15")
Bicycles on road 375m(15")
Wheeled transport on road 750m(30")
Wheeled transport off road 250m(10")

Bad going:-woods,rocky areas, urban buildings, soft ground and gullies.Only infantry and non-wheeled support weapons can enter.

Obstacles:-walls,gullies,hedges,fences,barricades,streams take half a turn to cross at non road speed.

Barbed wire and rivers take a whole turn to cross.

A group of elements may change formation for 2 points.

Troops may interpenetrate freely, but not vehicles.

Trucks cost one point to move each unless in colomn, with no more than one infantry element width between them when they count as a group for movement.Unlimbering\limbering and mounting\dismounting costs one point, this may be done as a group if elements are adjacent.

Movement is nominally simultaneous, but most battles are attack\defence, one side does most of the moving.Occassionally both sides want to move troops that are tactically engaged. In this situation the side with majority of higher quality troops decides whether to move first or second. If both sides are the same dice for the choice.

Tank movement

Tanks were usually attached to infantry battalions. They cost 1 point each to move.If in a colomn they also cost only 1 point to move, however only the lead tank can fire in the frontal arc.A group can move for 3 points but all the group must be visible to each other and move in the same direction.Frequently tanks would lose touch with their infantry support. If a 1 is thrown for the action points of a infantry battalion or tank company, all the tanks in the unit must move at full speed in the direction they are currently facing. This rule does not apply once a tank is destroyed or a tank panic test is failed in that unit.

Direct Fire

All elements that have not moved(except tanks and other vehicles mounted weapons) have one shot in the direct fire phase, except heavy machineguns that have three and, light machineguns, mortars and anti-aircraft cannon that have two shots. The extra shots must be at the same target or elements adjacent to it.Tanks and other vehicle mounted weapons can move and fire, but after non movers.Tanks etc count one shot per gun and machinegun mounted and facing in the right direction.

Arc of fire

Firing is restricted for crewed weapons to an arc of 60' to their front. This includeds tanks etc unless they turn a turret to face.

(* against soft cover only)

Roll 1 x D6 to hit which if succesful follow with another D6 to knockout. Knocked out elements are removed from play except vehicles and heavier guns that have smoke placed by them.Hit elements that are not knocked are pinned(except tanks that have their own rules).Place a pinned marker to indicate a pinned element. An element however many times it is hit only tests once a turn for knockout from direct fire.

Cover is gullies, ditchs, walls, buildings, caves, rocky ground, embankments and rubble.Small arms are effective against soft cover:-hedges,fences wood edges, reed beds etc.

Notes on Italians

Italian rifle platoons had light machinguns as standard issue. They fire at light machinegun factors but only the once. The Italains also had a flamethrower tank.
